He has no name. He has no future, other than that devoted to the long-term service of other men. He is a slave and now realises that it's time for him to fill this emotional void in his life. He had almost given up on finding his Master, the Master he could care for and service, the Master who would be mindful of his wellbeing and arouse his deepest emotional and erotic pleasures by using him physically and sexually. He is blessed to meet Master Peter and his friends Mark and Ian and through slave training in England and Germany commences the journey towards becoming a complete slave. He is mercilessly restrained and sexually used, each stage enhancing his commitment and devotion to his Masters. But his life is thrown into turmoil when he is kidnapped by a slave trader and shipped to a far off land. In a desert town in the Middle East his life enters a world devoid of emotion but full of humiliation, torture and pain. His misfortunes seem endless as he is passed from one abuser to another. Amidst the suffering he meets and falls in love with a fellow slave, Dale. They suffer together and their mutual suffering firms the bonds between them. In permanent slavery their very survival depends on the affection and support they receive from each other. A dramatic rescue releases the pair and the town from the grip of medieval slavery, but reinforces the fact that many are born to be slaves. Back in Europe and once again delivered to his Masters, he completes the cycle of devotion to servitude, love and personal fulfilment.

The Dark Side Pavel Servus Books

There is not much D/s nor BDSM (what I am looking for), but a lot of every kind of bondages you can imagine. Towards the end of the story, the main character is kidnapped and sold to a Sultan. Bondage and sex fantasies all along. Too much bondage and too much sex for me. It reminded me of a story I read years ago. The two stories are very very similar.

The Dark Side Pavel Servus Books Reviews

In the grand tradition of post-Second World War s&m novels (the 21st century is yet too new to characterise this art form by epoch) reaching back to Story of O by Pauline Reage, and encompassing John Preston's Mister Benson and Anne Rice's Beauty's Punishment, is a first novel by pseudonymous author Pavel Servus. Like its predecessors, The Dark Side is an adventure of dominance and submission told from the viewpoint of a sex slave to various (some consensually and some involuntarily encountered) masters.

Initiation into a transatlantic s&m circle is followed by a long episode of non-consensual servitude in an unspecified middle eastern place. The philosophical and (yes, Mr Vidal) political implications of this sort of sex in the context of both recreation and exploitation are not fully quarried in this tale and await further development, perhaps backed up by research `in the field' lying outside the routine scope, to which most NGOs are biased, of investigations limited to slave trafficking in women and children.

To start, a hapless yet determined man gives an extreme performance, despite himself, as a slave during a weekend romp involving bondage discipline and serial sex at the hands of a heavy s&m top man--and his invitees--who was originally contacted through a personal advert. This slave with no name is swept up by his own desire and the latent sponsorship of his new master into an affluent, all-male lodge of an unspecified professional organisation of global reach in which `it is quite possible to be a slave and serve a Master while at the same time progressing with a professional life.'

A wage-earning lifestyle is arguably an unacknowledged form of slavery in itself. It is also a context not given much critical attention in works of s&m fiction, because the good fetishist who buys such literature wants it to provide amusement and stimulation usually after working hours. Some professional endeavours such as performing arts and the volunteer military do attract cadres of like-minded same-sex colleagues. They recognise each other and promote each other's careers, but it is unclear to what extent recruitment and promotion explicitly extends to the world of fetish. The Dark Side may be a bit farfetched in this respect. Whatever; the premise does work. So do most of us for a living, and the demands of a life of work are a constant challenge to the integrity of an s&m master/slave relationship in and out of the dungeon. In most other s&m fiction, this is portrayed as a world apart and it is a credit to this author that he takes it on.

De Sade engaged contemporary socioeconomic structure in his pornophilosophical works through its pre-Freudian take on polymorphous perversion. In 101 Days of Sodom, men representative of the estates of ancien regime France--clerics, aristocrats, merchants, professionals--convene a sumptuous house party unashamedly licentious in its intent. Each day an episode of pornography (in this case literally `tales told by prostitutes') as related by an accomplished female courtesan inspires appreciative dialogue between the respondents that is shaped by the class interest of each. This in turn fixes the details of the erotic story in a sort of collective theoretical framework. The resultant connoisseurship is put to use in a sex session having acts so shockingly radical they would seldom be attempted (or even legal--at least nowadays) in reality.

Of course this is something else besides novel writing. But an encyclopaedic, almost Sadean interest in the technique and material detail of each encounter is satisfyingly plentiful in The Dark Side. Lucid and physiologically accurate descriptions of equipment and its application that truly take the place of graphic illustrations

'So there you are, encased in rubber, blinded by a hood, gagged with your jaws wide apart, nipples clamped, hands bound tightly behind you, balls stretched, butt plugged, legs pulled apart, catheterised, nose tubed and with a tube going from your cock to your stomach. You are totally immobile, exposed and without control of your bodily functions. Your erection attests to your excitement.'

Hardcore bondage freaks will note restraint episodes such as this one, taken to their logical conclusions, form a thematic strand for Servus throughout his story. Unlike de Sade, the narrative is more conventionally linear and novel-like, with characters, action, motives and settings giving way to each other seamlessly and without effort.

A smoothly--one might say even ethically--regulated world of all-male s&m is juxtaposed with an interlude arising from corruption and negligence in which the principal character is abducted by slave traders and forced to serve as part of a harem in an attractively pretechnological middle eastern state. While not explicitly identified, this place evokes Arabic cultural forms in dress, manner, social class structure, and an even-greater-than-northern-European level of wealth so characteristic in these petroleum-addicted times.

There are no oil wells, gaudy high-rises or Formula One races in sight, however, and because religion is never mentioned, Servus probably need have no fear of fatwah. But associated cultural norms with respect to extramarital sex are implied by the ruthless uses to which male slaves are put by both sexes and all classes--including the highest--in such societies. Verisimilitude would probably call for even greater degradation and harsher physical outcomes such as those befalling the Morocco-based anthropologist in a short story by Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky. In related nonfiction, recent video cam evidence from a lift cabin in a smart London hotel probably reveals just the tip of the real world iceberg. A very dark side indeed.

Of course the peoples of the middle east have no monopoly on such behaviour and never will. But the contrast of real with discretionary sex slavery by Servus in his story is poignant in its own way and full of potential for future imaginative development, since the reality on which the s&m fantasy is based can be so divergent from that fantasy. The sun is hot, the work hard, the food ordinary, the conditions rugged, but there is still chance for a bit of fun. The white boys band together on their dirty straw pallet and bond--emotionally of course, because they are already chained up.

The self respect engendered by the main character, who forms a special relationship with an even more attractive brother slave (a tourist named Dale captured on a backpacking trip), will no doubt resonate with the psychology of many submissive readers, who can become so isolated in the practice of s&m that their own self worth is always in question. Dale becomes hooked on his new mate, leaving behind wholesome sexual straighthood, American style, in the face of the rigours of a new expat life that has led, as luck would have it, to this change of heart.

A special aura surrounds the two and they are spotted by the sultan of their host principality, who naturally requires special sexual performance from them for the exclusive enjoyment of his particularly well-endowed self and pals. In some ways this is the erotic climax of the book, followed by good-humoured testimony to the timelessness of humanity's service to humanity as a universal condition. The sultan, when finally brought to justice in a SWAT operation mobilised by the onetime masters of the main character, flashes a knowing wink and a brief grin to his now-former property as it is led to freedom--or is it really slavery? You decide.
