Real life is messy, and so is love! That's what I learned from reading this book.Love, Desire, and Betrayal is a collection of four literary short stories. This isn't my usual genre, and I wasn't sure what to expect. At first, the writing seemed formal to me, but I was drawn into the story by the end of the first page. Some of these stories have won awards, and I can see why. Even though the stories are short, the author manages to bring immense depth to the characters. I never felt the plot was rushed, and the stories were as intricate and well-described as a full-length novel.
Now this is NOT a sweet, light-hearted romance, like my usual fare. The stories are gritty and realistic. The heroines are flawed, as are the men they love. Happily-ever-after is something they dream about, but grab for. But they find their idealistic notions of romance and love slip through their fingers like so much sand. Yet, the stories end with hope, rather than despair.
I saw a review that criticized the editing, but I didn't see a single mistake in the entire book.
So if you like fun, sappy romance--the kind that makes you laugh--the kind that you can predict the end from the very first page--this is not the book for you.
But if you like well-written stories of real people--flawed, changing, growing, struggling--as they discover love is not like a Hallmark movie, you don't want to miss this book!

Love Desire and Betrayal edition by Margaret Lynette Sharp Ronald William Sharp Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This quartet of character-driven, page-turning romantic novellas by Ms. Sharp is a phenomenal bargain you should seize upon. Three of the four (Michaela Betrayed, Lauren Played and Amelia's Call) have been published previously to considerable acclaim and enthusiastic reviews from prominent bloggers and authors -- and this reviewer as well, so I won't repeat myself other than just to say that Margaret Sharp writes stirring romance (with completely authentic and believable heroines) in exquisitely poetic, spare, well-crafted prose that makes her work a delight to read. Check out the individual reviews of the included works, but once you've read one, you'll want to read the others (including the particularly riveting one never before published), and you'll save 65% by enjoying all four together in this superlative collection.
Love, Desire and Betrayal is a collection of short stories featuring young women who’ve found themselves in relationships that have them questioning many aspects of the relationship – good and bad. Ms. Sharp can definitely put pen to paper. Her writing skills are exemplary and the prose is topnotch.
In the first story we learn about Michaela. A budding musician she finds herself wondering what will become of her relationship with current boyfriend, Thomas. In the next story we have Sally and Nathan. Sally is all too happy that Nathan will be accepted to medical school – or is she? And then we have Amelia and Steven. Her thoughts as she walks down the aisle – are they wedding jitters, or tell-tale signs of brewing trouble? Lastly, in Lauren Played, sixteen year old Lauren has aspirations of becoming a star. Will she find her calling and a new boyfriend too?

This is a collection of four romance novellas of young women's first loves. There are conflicts between men and career choices, having to please parents, married men, older men and players. All the women in these four novellas, Michaela, Sally, Amelia and Lauren "had yet to prove ourselves to the world. Our ambitions were still in their infancy."
Sharp seems to know betrayal and portrays it well in this series. She captures what it's like to be young and in love and having to face the disappointments that come along with falling in love. Young women who are discovering love are sure to find in these novellas comfort and encouragement.
As bonus the reader gets the Australian beach and sunshine. A warmth not to be neglected when one is reading these stories in the midst of a freezing winter. These were enjoyable stories taking me back to my own innocent romances of my late teen years. Bob Dylan's Lay Lady Lay comes to mind.
Getting to Mr. Right Missi's Dating Adventures Mourning Has Broken
I'm not always one for short stories, but found myself really enjoying these. Each takes up roughly one quarter of the book, and that was plenty enough to tell their story. Although, there was one story in particular that I wanted more of.
Each is a romance, some sweet - some not so much. They chronicle the very real struggles in people's lives. When a couple face seemingly insurmountable odds, can they beat them? This book answers the question - what if the person you thought you were meant to be with isn't the one after all?
All four women were extremely naive. This worked in a couple of the stories, but not in one in particular. I won't give specifics, because I think you really should read this book for yourselves, it's worth the read, but I did like some more than others. Don't get me wrong, they were all enjoyable, just a couple of the women got on my nerves.
One theme I loved was breaking away from the power certain men had on them. They went after what they wanted and didn't let their boyfriends/husbands stop them.
Overall, a good book that was worth the time I spent reading it!
