I'd known of Wong Kiew Kit from martial art circles and I was pleasantly surprised by his knowledgeable & clear presentation.

I would like to thank Wong Kiew Kit, who introduced me to the great tradition of Pure Land Buddhism through this book.

It just happened that I was researching a lot on Martial Art traditions and it’s place in spirituality specially the great shaolin tradition which traces it’s lineage to the great Indian Monk Bodhidharma, in that process I happened to read Mr Wong’s amazing ‘Complete Book of Shaolin’, I was so impressed by his book that I eventually went on to read his other books like ‘Complete Book of Zen’ and Tai chi chuan as I was going through his catalouge I happened to touch upon this book.

The topic of afterlife has always been my area of interest and I have been a reader and to some extent a believer of Buddhist Cosmology (along with hindu) which always talked about six realms of sentient beings and Thirty Three Realms overall including Forms and Formless never did I know that a concept like Pure Land exists apart from standard cosmology which I only came to know when I read Master Wong’s beautifully written book ‘Sukhavati Western Paradise’. Those who are not aware Pure Land is concieved to be a land made by Amida Tathagata as a result of his compassionate vow of Bodhisattva in his last life to save all sentient beings who just uttered his name with sincere heart no matter what their karma be, they will be born in this land which will provide all conducive environment to the karmic beings who can get liberated, Many great Japanese and Chinese masters interpreted it as not different from Nirvana and getting merged into Amida (Buddha of immeasurable light and immeasurable life) and attaining his state

This concept intruiged me so much that I started googling about this tradition and it’s impact on Buddhist World which evetaully led me to discover the great tradition of Pure Land practiced widely in Japan named Jodo Shinshu (True PureLand Buddhism) also known as Shin Buddhism in western Terminology. Now I have read a lot about Master Honen, Shinran and other great Chinese pure land teachers who talk in the same line like that of ‘Grace’ in Christianity, the concept is not actually like christianity at all but has a very deeper and a beautiful meaning which may even help in understanding various concepts of other Faiths, I could also draw parallels with the ‘Name Reciting’ tradition that is a dominant part of many World Religions.

That is why this book is priceless for me and I am sure it will be for all of those who want to read and study more about Pure Land, it will certainly interest many ardent believers of afterlife too as master Wong’s writing is stupendous.
Who says that Budhism does not have salvation?

IT is fantastic read of the Buddhist cosmologies and heavens particularly of the pure land of Sukhavati. Also compares the different schools of Buddhism.
